Holidays

Used to be fun…

And now I’m stuck in my apartment in this small town, living my everyday live in routine. Wake up, breakfast, study, lunch + drama, study, dinner + drama, study, sleep… And the cycle repeats itself. Well at least I’m not wasting time, just turning into a robot that only wish right now is to pass FM.

On the other hand, I’m really happy that I’ve fulfilled 2 of my new year resolutions I mentioned in my last post! I’ve gotten an on campus job as the recreational staff in the Bell Center! Wheeee~~ :D When I saw the email from my future supervisor, I was literally smiling WIDE. However I have not told my family about it yet cause I want everything to be certain as there is a lot of paperwork and application to go through before I’m 100% sure that I got the job and can start working. So you all must help me keep it a secret first! Shhhh…

The second resolution that has been fulfilled is to be more outspoken! Attended a committee meeting last Friday and was really happy my opinion was noted and taken! :D Last week was not so bad after all. Another good news come to me yesterday, again when I was checking my email.

4.0

An email from the Dean (With the title being “WOW!), can I not be happy?! The feeling when hard work pays off :)

Spent this morning was not so routine actually, as I went to the Human Resource office to pick up my letter, and proceed to the International Center to request for another letter. Then I walked to the Old Main office to pay off our rent for Febraury. Came home, paid my fees and wrote the minutes to be sent to Aaron. Hmmm feeling productive… NOT. I’m getting lazy and frustrated looking at the thick stack of paper with all the questions waiting to be solved. I NEED MOTIVATION.

One thing that I’ve really improved a lot since I left Malaysia and come here is cooking!! Haha I dare not say I’m good at it, but I know I’ve improved. And I think I’m the best “rice cooker” in the house :P Chrysanthemum tea in the making!

Til then!

2013

It’s 2013! I have not came up with any new year resolutions yet, I guess the first thing on my mind is to pass FM, lol. FM is the first actuarial science professional paper that I will be sitting on February 15th. Wish me luck! Don’t complain about Theory of Interest, FM (Financial Management) is SO MUCH worse.

Anyway, why not start my list of new year resolutions now? Okay here we go.

1) Pass FM? Haha told ya it’s the first thing on my mind! Okay maybe P (probability) too..

2) Get an on campus job (and work hard, earn more money) cause I really need it! I know how my parents wish I have gotten better scholarships than the one I have now (Merit scholarship with 10k a year which is really insufficient). I don’t know if it’s really me who is not trying hard enough or I really have no luck when it comes to scholarship. THEREFORE! I need a job. At least if I have one I can bear my own living expenses (excluding rental) and my parents only have to worry about the tuition fees…

3) Be more active in class and also other clubs. I feel that I’m not outspoken enough in class. I need a lot of time to warm up, know my professor’s style and my classmates before I can voice my opinion confidently which really really needs improvement! And I always tell myself that I should be more actives outside the classroom as it’s as important as being excellent academically but til now I’m still not doing it. GAHH.

4) WORK OUT MORE. Haha this pops up in my mind! I’ve gained so much weight since I came to the US, and I’m not saying I’m fat, but gaining weight just like distorts my body composition. HAHAHAHA. I feel like all the weight I gained is lumped up in the tummy!! I want nice body shape, not fat tummy :P

Okay I’m stuck. But 4 is good enough :) Let’s see if I can check all that!

Here are some songs that I’m currently addicted to and I just like to share them here:

And one more… (Don’t judge if you don’t like them)

Okay I admit when I first heard of it I was like errr… But then after listening to it a few more times, I think it was actually not bad :P I’m bias, but who’s not!! YOONA :D yuri taeyeon tiffany jessica seohyun sooyoung sunny hyoyeon!

Okay I better get back to FM. See you all soon!

Journey

Hello people! Long time no see huh? :)

Wanted to blog this since last 2 weeks but was always hold  up by something else. So, here it is!

WARNING: This is going to be a very long post.

Here I am now, sitting on a couch in Room 201 in Ross Hall, one of the residence halls of Drake University in Des Moines (Pronounced as Dee Moin, or something like that), Iowa, US. Once in a while this whole thing still seem so surreal to me. Sometimes I wake up and took a few seconds to realize that I am in US instead of in my lovely room in Malaysia. All the farewells are like yesterday, and I just couldn't get used to the fact that I can't talk to my mum face to face everyday.

My last semester in Inti ended 3 weeks before my departure to US. In that 3 weeks, I was busy preparing for this journey. And also, I had my first surprised farewell! Okay wait I don't think I'll have a second one but... this is how my day went.

It was a Friday evening and I just got back from work. My brother went home with me, and he took his shower after me. I immediately felt that something was wrong because normally he would not shower until it is 10p.m.. He showered, and went out!! And I waited for bf to come and fetch me to Sunway Pyramid. When we reached there, I was so hungry but my bf tried doing so many stuffs other than bringing me to eat. And he kept receiving calls and msgs. So I started to become suspicious. There is definitely a conspiracy going on! So I asked him, is my brother here? He kept on avoiding my question and would not allow me to ask more, which confirmed that there was something going on! And then finally, he received a call and FINALLY willing to bring me to eat. He took me to Fullhouse, and I said I don't want to eat there (to test id there is REALLY something going on) and he said cannot, I must eat there LOL. So we went in, and guess what? There's this 1 2 3 4 5 6 people sitting there trying to cover their faces with menus! Lol! Yup, the uninvited guests!

The very first person I want to thank is actually my brother. Not because he is the most organizer who plan this surprise (I'm not sure who is), not because his presents are the best, but because he is the one that has spent his most of his entire life, at least til now, with me. I live with him since I was born, we used to fight when we are little kids, but now we are all grown up and I think both of us appreciate the presence of each other. He and I are only 1  year apart, and that makes us share a lot of common similarities. We talked to each other on basically everything, and he knows WHO I AM. Okay, stop the long winded-ness, and these are the presents he gave me!

A very cute PINK ear muffs! :D
Oh he actually gave me a pair of heels too, but I don't have a picture of that :P

Yup, not fancy gifts, but something I will need in the future. So thank you bro, if you are reading this, I would love you to know that I miss eating supper and going to watson with you :)

Next up is my dearest boyfriend! :D
Boyfriend :)
Then my seat-mates for last two years in high school, Jia Ying! :)
Jia Ying :)

A pair of earrings! So elegant :) I want to thank her for being next to me (physically and also mentally) for quite a long time in my life, and I am so thankful I have her. I always ask her to check my English for me, and I used to borrow a lot of novels from her. Didn't get to sleepover at your house before I come to US! :( We MUST do it next year kay? :D All the best in United Kingdom, and keep in touch!

Next we have the sampat group leader Vivi!
Vivian :)
A jar of stone- and lego-shaped candy!
The one very important thing I want to thank Vivian is that she always fetch me to our hang outs and gatherings. THANK YOU SO SO MUCH. Next time, like few years more, I will fetch you back! :P

And then the tall girl of our gang!
Yi leng :)
The bear who is currently on my study desk!
Thank you for umm.. Celebrating my 13th, 14th, 15th, 16th, 17th, 18th and 19th birthday? LOL just kidding! Thank you for being my roommate in the 3A2 class trip! And thank you for introducing me to English songs! Fall for you!!

Last but not least, my dearest Orange, a.k.a Xue Ying! :D

The mug I am using right now!
Thank you for participating in the 30-hour famine with me, thrice. Thank you for being my faithful listener, and thank you for believing in me and sharing your life stories with  me. All the best in UK too, and ALWAYS whatsapp me, but do get enough rest no matter you are in Malaysia, United States or UK!

It was an unbelievable night. I was literally the happiest person on earth. Thank you again everyone!

You all might be wondering why didn't I elaborate on my bf's part. Well cause I'm going to do so now!

On the 12th of August, my bf came to my house in the evening to fetch me. However, he asked me to blindfold myself when I got into the car. He forced me to! Lol so I did, and he drove me to I-don't-know-where. He drove for so long! Like an hour?? Haha I almost fell asleep. And I ended up in his house! And when I entered the living room...

I stare right into this. Yeap! Candle light dinner :) With th-cooked food!

The chef with the chicken :) And I have to tell you, the food is really really nice! I had salad, chicken with potato, and cheesecake :D

A bit blur but I like the color :)
Red roses! I love roses but one thing about them is that they wilt quite fast :(

Sweet eh? :P
When people ask me about my relationship, I am never shy to tell them that I have a bf in Malaysia and we have been together for almost 3 years. I know I have said thank you to you numerous times dear, but I want you to know that every time I say it, I mean it. Please wait for me, I'll be home soon <3 p="p">
The last farewell I had was on 18th August, one day before my departure to the states, in my house. Most of the guests are my family, but some of my friends managed to turn up too!

Happy family :)
Thanks for those who attended, thanks for the wishes and thanks for the angpau's!

On the 19th of August, my family and I went to the airport at 8 in the morning. My flight was scheduled to depart at 11a.m.. Three out of four of my "bodyguards" came to send me off too!

Protect me!! XD
I didn't really get to say goodbye to them :( Rushing to check in and all. But one thing that I will never forget, one thing that always make me cry is the hug that I got before I start the journey alone. Mum's gentle hug, telling me that everything is going to be okay, dad's strong hug, giving me the courage I need and bf's hug, telling me that he will be waiting for me to go home..

During our orientation, one of the officers said to all new international students: "One thing all of you have in common is that you all have traveled a long journey to reach here. And what I mean is not just the flight, but the emotional and mental journey that you all have undergone."

Yes indeed. From choosing the uni to applying to that uni, doing visa, booking air tickets, preparing and packing. And on top of all is that I won't be seeing my family and friends in Malaysia for almost a year :(

I miss home, I always do. But in this new place, I meet new people, learn new things, adapt to new culture. And I will still be me. The values I bring with me and my love towards my loved ones will never be lost. The first thing I go home next year is to hug mum and dad and tell them I really, really love them.

Having their love for me and my love for them, I'm pretty much settled down in this small town. Drake is a small school, but the people here is nice, helpful and friendly. My classes had started and life goes on. I share this apartment style hostel with 3 other girls from Malaysia and we walk to class everyday. We are doing well! :)

My journey has started, and I will make the most out of it before I reach  my destiny.

p.s. Always check my Facebook to see pictures and for more recent updates! :)

Date :)

Dated bf again today. Yup I dated him!! Haha I asked him out, but he suggested the venue la :) We went to Publika in Sri Hartamas. It is a very special place, different from all the other shopping malls. There is no crowd, and not full of branded shops, not very big either. But it has this relaxing and comforting feel in it, and it has a lot of dining places that I have never seen before!

So we shopped first, and I bought a necklace from this very nice and special shop!

It sells everything ranging from clothing to accessories to note books and badges. And the merchandises are really, really special! It's as if every single item is specially made for a special person :) And after walking for a while, my stomach started to grumble and we went to Journal by Plan B to have lunch! First time ever I SEE this restaurant, not to mention dining in it. If you are looking for it, it has a lot of old typing machines displaying outside the restaurant. And it plays P. Ramlee movies in it. Same movie playing simultaneously in 3 tv's arranged side by side. LOL for me that's weird. Bf ordered pasta, me burger (again, same as the previous post titled TGIF! :D ) After eating a small portion of the food, I was quite full. No jokes! Bad stomach day, if there's something like that. Bf asked me if I was given a chance, would I go back and dine there again? I said no, I will prefer TGIF lol. But bf prefer this restaurant, different taste ba...

Like I said the shopping mall is small, and we didn't have much to shop for, so we went back home after a while. Played with this very cute 5-year-old girl!!

Silly yet cute and funny girl! Haha I kept telling her, you can't forget me ah. And if she really does not forget me, I will give her chocolate and jelly as rewards! Haha how cute ^.^

Okay, mum just warned me that "I had fun the whole day". MEANING: I had not been studying FOR THE WHOLE DAY.

Parental love ♥

Greetings! :D

So it's Saturday... Like a usual one, I taught a standard 3 boy Malay, and earned some cash for myself, and then I went online, clicking on anything... Nothing interesting happened until evening. I told mum I wanted a pair of shades, and finally, me and mum went t get one today!

Morgan de Toi :)
The color is not really clear here, but yeah :) thanks mummy, ILY <3

Speaking of my parents.. They have always been so supportive. ALWAYS. Although they are really strict, and they are more traditional chinese parents, if you know what I mean, they let me do what I want and intervene in the right moments. When I was small, I had a chance to learn ballet, but because I kept on walking on my toes (my heels are not touching the ground), they dislike it and there ends my ballet life. Lol they could have just told me :P but they are showing me that I can't always get what I want if in the process I might be learning something wrong. However, if it's nothing wrong and it's my choice, they give full support. They always want the best for me. Like studying in Inti, then Drake, this whole thing I decide on my own. They just paid the money, fetched me to school once in a while, and became worried when I planted my head in the books and neglecting health. And now they have to pay a HUGEEEEEEEEEE sum for my studies in the US, I admit I'm not proactive enough in finding scholarship, but they never rush me and never scolded me for wanting them to pay so much money. I am such a bad girl, but I really feel their love and I'm really feeling guilty for it. Mum had spent a lot of money this year, since we visited China and the ceiling and the roof of my house had been kind of rebuilt, but she is willing to buy me this expensive shades. She is also planning to organize a buffet dinner as my farewell + my brother's birthday celebration. Awwww mum...

So I keep on telling myself, I must be successful in the future, and pay back what my parents have given me, although I can never clear my debt in this lifetime. In any lifetime. I will never forget what I get from you, mum and dad, and I will always, always love you both. Please just wait for a few years, until I have the ability to let you feel this little but invaluable pleasures in life.

Thank you.

Being alone in the CAE is... normal. I mean, what do you expect when you have friends who like to skip class for whatever reason it is :P But being myself, it just feels great. I mean, I don't just do what others do, I decide for myself and it is really cool how I got to control my own life and not just follow what others do (being a bit sentimental here, lol).

Went to take my injection today! It was the last required injection by the university so, I'M DONE! :D I have never been afraid of injection, it's just inserting a needle into your arms or somewhere else on your body and then let the vaccine in. What is so scary about it? I admit, it is a little bit painful, but just that little bit!! So for people out there who fear injection, relax~~~~ :P :P

Oh, and so when I was waiting for the nurse or somebody to take the vaccine, I flip through my Public Speaking textbook. I haven't been studying it since midterm!! Better get started bit by bit. I seem hardworking and serious, I assume, since the manager(?) there walked towards me and ask me what was I reading. She was a friendly middle-aged lady, the kind of person who you can feel that she is devoting her life to something meaningful, and she would really like to see anyone from the younger generation succeed. So I talked to her for a while, answered a few questions that I have answered a thousand times i.e. Where are you furthering your studies, what is your major, when are you going, so on and so forth. And she is so encouraging! Keep praising me for knowing what I want to do LOL. But yeah, after I talked to her, I am really motivated to live my life the way I want it to and live it to the fullest!! Hahaha..

One more hour before class starts, what should we do? :) Waiting for bf to come back from Perth, he's coming back today!! So that means I can meet him tomorrow, after soooooo long. But I can't say anything, since I am living to the US soon and I'll only be back after at least a year :( can't imagine how much I'll miss everyone here!! Even my mum's naughty tuition students. I sure miss them calling "jie jie jie jie" and annoying me, lol.

And I really lost my corn-shaped pen drive *sob sob* now i only have one pity old and 4GB one, haiyor. Sine I have no new photos to post, just wanna let you look at these, the photos I included in my slides for my public speaking persuasive speech.

The earth is ill :( Like one of my classmate said, the earth gave us everything but we did not give her anything or do anything for her in return!! So people, let's do something? :)

And livestock really contributes A LOT to the dying of the earth. They produce methane, which has so much higher warming power than CO2!! And imagine the trucks transporting the chicken and the pork and the lamb from the farm to somewhere else. These trucks produce CO, CO2 and some other gasses that you all know. Harmful ones.

So we should really so something to save the earth!! My solution is: Go vegetarian people! :D Vegetarian meal is actually very yummy, and very healthy! Take it once in a while!
See? So cute!! <3

Haha yup those are my main points for my persuasive speech :P Suddenly keep blogging lol. I'm just too free!!

Kay, it was a long post, better stop here! See ya soon! ;D

Sigh of relief

Persuasive speech is over, calculus 3 test 3 is over, but I don’t even the tiniest bit of happiness. HAIYOR. Can’t possibly feel happy when you screwed up a 20% test right? I mean… Fine, I’ll start with the speech.

Persuasive speech is one of the assignment of COM110: Essentials of Public Speaking and I would say it’s the most important one due to it’s weightage. 15% for the written speech and 15% for oral! How on earth is it not important right.. So I spent around a week preparing it: Doing the questionnaire, typing the speech, memorizing it, preparing the slides… I have some really kind-hearted friend who read through my spe ech and helped me make it better! I value each and every one of their suggestions and so, thank you so much, you know who you are <3 But the bad thing is, I save all my work in my pendrive. Ummm wait, only the slides and video. My speech I have a copy in my computer. So my speech was today. And yesterday, I was in the CAE, trying to show my friend when to help me change my slides. And I just left my pendrive plugged in and went home –.- how smart is that huh. Lucky I realize the night before! Quickly redo everything.

On the day itself, which is today, I was the second one to give my speech. Not really super super nervous, but the nervousness was there and you can feel the heart pounding, you know. So when the first guy finished, I went up there, vomit out everything that I had memorized, missed some parts and get over it. And  when I went back to my seat, my lecturer asked:”Where’s your second visual aid?” But I thought video is the second visual aid! She said video is same as slides, both under multimedia so she penalize me for that. If not I might have gotten full marks. Another wasted Z.Z.Z. So I got 23.5 out of 25. Most of my comments are good, like “good intro”, “you know your speech, good”, “good attitude” and so on.. The only negative one is “2nd visual??” T_T

After lunch, spent around 3 hours preparing for cal 3 test. So stressful right, 2 important things in one day. Sigh. I don’t usually look through the whole test paper before I start tho. I just.. start. Haha. So the 1st question was okay, so was the 2nd and the third (I think) but the 4th 5th and 6th I totally gave up. 20%. I don’t understand! The lecturer cant teach, but the questions he set are so freaking hard! What is the logic behind this?????

Anyway, kind of relieved right now cause this 2 BIG things are over. Can have a good night sleep tonight!

Dilemma

Wait. Should be dilemmas.

First of all, I don’t know whether I should sleep or study right now. Like 12 in the morning =.= Not that sleepy, not that awake either, just feel like I haven’t been really studying and productivity is near zero today. But I doubt more info can go into the brain if I study now. BUT  I took a nap just now. A long one. Ahhhhhhhhhhh! ><

Then, seems like Drake had received our mail. It’s a good thing, and I kind of have confirmed going to Drake, but the only thing I’m worry now is $$$ :( What if I don’t get scholarship? I’m not like those rich kids out there, go and study can d :( But as you know Drake is not a very very good uni, and it will be REALLY challenging. And I always slack. Blame who? :(

studying

The only thing I am proud of myself for now is that I have not been watching kdramas for a week now! Self-control maintained :D Luckily, if not more of my time will be wasted. I can tolerate having long naps during study break, but definitely not watching dramas :P Really really tempting, but time to practise self-discipline! Watching dramas only make you more tired, besides wasting your time and not adding anything valuable to your brain (telling myself).

Bf watching movie with friends tmr :’( Imma sad girl trapped here studying. HMPH wait lar, after my finals gonna play gao gao!!!!!!!!!

Me tomorrow XD

Untitled.

ONE MORE WEEK.

Then finals. OMG.

Then one week. Just one week. Then heaven! :D

Okay, should stop imagining but should focus on the tasks on hand. Hmmm just a quick recap of what I’ve done in these few weeks..

1) First time doing a magazine as assignment! I really do not like group assignment, cause you know you’ll always get “those” kind of members, plus I’m always the group leader which is NOT FUN AT ALL. So every one was supposed to produce one historical article plus one addition element like cartoon, advertisement, crossword puzzle etc. Those normal things that appear in a magazine. My part was on President Clinton and I did a Dear Abby Column. There was a bit of confusion cause unfortunately, I have 2 “those” kind of members, and I really have to send like trillion emails and text messages to get them reply me. Anyway, I was not in charge of the cover page at first. But you know what? Even on the deadline itself the girl did not send me the cover. I could not just sit there and wait right? So I did it on my own, spend one hour plus and this is the outcome.

cover

I think it is considered not bad for a person with no art sense like me :P And on Thursday, we did a presentation on our magazine. Our presentation was *no-eyes-see*

2) Watched the Hunger Games! I think this kind of movie produced from novels should be watched before reading the novel itself. Cause if you do it the other way round, you’ll find the movie not so interesting? That is my opinion only tho. That movie was not bad, but could have been better.

hunger games

3) Participated in a flash mob in Tropicana City Mall! It was definitely a fun and memorable experience :) Still do not have any pictures or videos tho…

4) Being left out by friends :( Like best friends. Can’t tell you how much it hurts, or how shocked I was, but yeah.

5) Doing a lot of Uni things! Flying to the States in August :) Need to but air tickets soon!!

And for now, I should be busy preparing for the final exams on next week. Need to study like really hard! History ohemgee.

Till then.

Loneliness

I can’t say that I hate to be alone. Sometimes it’s calming, sometimes it kills, it depends. But in a situation like this where you are alone in SS15 and have practically nothing else to do, you’ll start thinking about everything else. My thoughts start wandering, and somehow it landed in US. I wonder how it will be like when I am in the States. Will I always be alone? Will I miss my family and friends here too much? Can I adapt? And most importantly, can I achieve what I am suppose to?

Sometimes I think too much and put myself in trouble. ANYWAY, am quite happy and satisfied with my linear algebra and chemistry test results. Not prefect, but since nobody’s prefect, I’ll just have to see the perfection in the imperfection.

Sitting in McDonald’s facing the main road, I can feel that the rain is coming. 有种山雨欲来风满楼的感觉。What I want to do now is go home, shower, and sleep.

And the lecturer ar, make us bring the laptop, carry it whole day but did not use it >:( very heavy one lor u know?

And my keychain bear just jumped off from my laptop bag. Cant seem to fix it with my hands. ahhh adds to the frustration.

Please let me be at home by 7 30 tmr? TQVM :)

V-day and YiLeng’s bday :)

Gonna post bout Valentine’s Day and celebration of Yi Leng’s birthday! :D

This year’s Valentine’s Day fell on a Tuesday, and sadly, I had classes on that day from 10-12 and 4-6. Thought could never have celebrated it with boyfriend, but was elated when we actually made it to Sunway Pyramid during my 4 hours break! We shopped, ate, bumped into friends, and he sent me back to college. And my biggest surprise? The teddy bear!! It is really really really cute, with love and roses, and I never know he will buy me one! *scream happily*

SDC12381

My loves <3 The big one was the one I mentioned, and the small one was from bf too, for my 16th birthday :) I love them both, but bf most! ;)

And guess what? I had chemistry lab session after that, and I was sort of scolded by teacher for 2 times. Argh :(

Had linear algebra test on Friday. It was not tough, just lengthy, and very easy to make mistakes. Still erasing and writing until the very last second! >< Gosh please please please let me get good result :(

Anyway, me with my high school best friends celebrated Yi Leng’s belated birthday today! :D Since 3 of us never been to Bubba Gump before, we decided to head there for lunch. The food was so so, but the atmosphere quite special. Some snapshots :)

Bought bf a Adidas sportswear. He said he love it. Happieeeeeeeeeeee :D

3 more tests coming next week! Better off to study now. Wish me luck people!

Too much to feel.

I don’t feel like studying.

Therefore I am here.

Hey peeps! It’s a muggy Sunday afternoon, and my head is so heavy. Blame it to insufficient sleep. Really need to start on the revision ASAP, but well, sleep is the priority :p

Chinese New Year was officially over (a few days ago), and I really really enjoyed it. It was special, it was the last one I spent before I go to the US, it was the first time my family won the lucky draw prize in a dinner, the first time I had so many friends visiting my house and I totally loved it, the first time lighting the fireworks, and the first time I climbed Broga Hill (with flats, that was incredibly hard and painful, but worth it).

All in all, I hope the holidays did not end, but on the other side I wish I can be a grown up that can earn my own money, so that I can stop bothering people. Yeah, it sucks to feel that I’m incapable of doing things on my own, not that I don’t want, not that I didn’t try. I walked to the ktm despite the rain, I walked home although it was scorching hot and I helped mum out although I’m really exhausted. Dependent huh? Cant disagree more. This transportation issue had been ruining my mood every time it arose. Owning my own car is my dream, no matter how humble it seems.

Oh and look at these.

Can you believe this is from a Standard 2 textbook? Standard 2. Eight years old. I don’t think they’ll understand lo! What la is those authors thinking? It wont benefit much by forcing them like this, really.

Am tired of typing. LOL let the pictures do the work then :)
